1. They use new airplanes

Norwegian has the newest and most fuel efficient airplanes (Boeing 787 Dreamliner). In 2015, Norwegian was named the most fuel-efficient airline on transatlantic routes by The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT).

And fuel efficiency means less cost for us consumers.

2. They sell bare tickets

When you book a Norwegian ticket, you have to pay for seat allocation, in-flight meals and baggage. Bare tickets are great because they give the consumer the ability to choose what to pay for.

If you hate airplane food, then you can just purchase your food on the ground and get it with you on the plane.

Also, in our post How to pack light and travel smart, we explain how you can travel without luggage.

3. They avoid busy airports

Norwegian doesn’t fly from overcrowded airports such as Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and London Heathtrow (LHR). Flying through these airports is normally more expensive since the demand is very high.

But isn't San Fransisco a busy airport?

If Norwegian avoids busy airports, then how can you fly to San Francisco? The trick is, Norwegian flies to Oackland Airport (OAK), which is only 18 km (11 miles) away from San Francisco Airport (SFO).

This means that it'll take you about 30 minutes more to reach your final destination in San Francisco, but it's totally worth it since you'll be flying non-stop from Europe, for cheap.

Where can I fly from?

Norwegian Airlines is based in Oslo. But you might not live in Oslo, so how can you still benefit from this crazy deal? Well, Norwegian runs direct flights to Oakland from more than 50 airports in Europe!

What if my city is not on that list?

We all know that flights between European cities are very cheap. With all these choices, you should be able to find a cheap flight/bus/train that connects you from your current destination allowing you to catch one of those cheap flights.

Remember, most of these flights fly only a few times a week, depending on the departure airport. Thus, make sure to have the flexibility to fly a few days earlier or later, it will save you a lot of money.
